Two new catalogues are now available on the Archives Hub:
EB: Early Printed Books. Dating from 1474 to 1799, these books were purchased at various dates by predecessors of the De Montfort University Library. The majority have subjects which do not reflect the teaching strengths of the university. It is believed therefore that they were purchased as examples of bookbinding, leatherworking, typography and lettering for students of those subjects.
D/054: Portraits of Staff and Governors, Leicester Polytechnic and Predecessors. These comprise 18 bronze sculpted relief portraits of notable staff and governors of the Leicester Municipal Technical and Art School and its successors Leicester College of Art, Leicester College of Technology, and Leicester Polytechnic. The portraits are set into wooden mounts for display.
In addition, D/039: City of Leicester Training College for Teachers has been catalogued to item level. This collection outlines the development of the training college, based in Humberstone Road and then Scraptoft, until it merged with Leicester Polytechnic in 1976. The highlight of the collection are three scrapbooks containing press cuttings, photographs, circular letters, curriculum notes, class timetables, examination lists, events tickets and posters, and magazines relating to the College. These reveal a close-knit, largely female community enjoying learning, teaching, outings and parties.
